hk2005

After 4 days of inactivity, it's time to talk about the HK trip H and I just went on.

It started out exactly like the Phuket trip did. There was a problem with my luggage AGAIN. Someone on the same flight to HK had the exact same bag and we of course picked up the wrong one and happily went to our hotel (Disney Hollywood) without a clue that we had ruined the beginning of someone else's holiday and ours. (lol)

We only found out our mistake after someone from Cathay Pacific called us in the late afternoon and we had to go back to the airport to set things right.

But lo and behold, it wasn't all bad. Just when I thought my first day was totally a waste, we spotted Jay Chou! lol. Ok I'm not his ardent fan but hEy, it's Jay Chou ok, in a ski cap and bug shades and about twenty screaming fans and a dozen security guards in tow. We were probably just 1 metre away from him when he walked out of the customs from right behind me. But I was too late in grabbing my camera and could only manage this.

Day 2 was Disneyland day! :) We got off to an early start (or so we thought) by reaching the entrance at 845 but the crowd was already there, mostly queuing up to buy tickets. Fortunately we got ours in advance.

The HK Disneyland was really quite small compared to her counterparts in other parts of the world. If you skip queuing up for the kiddy rides, half a day would be more than enough for you to see everything.

We took pictures with almost every character we saw. hee. Goofy, Daisy, Donald, Minnie, Mickey, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger! Dunno if I forgot any. The pictures are in H's camera. Will post if I don't look too ugly. :p

Anyway this is one interesting fellow we met at the park.

Check out her hair. (thanks to H for taking these pix)

We caught up with her at one of the souvenir stores and asked if we could take pix of her and once she said yes, the people around us started to also whip out their cameras and start snapping.

The next day, we saw her again. She was at the Hollywood hotel lobby buying tickets to the park. Nuff said.

For all the magic of Disney, I was more enamoured by the children who visited the park than anything else. Or perhaps it's just an inane obsession with taking pictures of kids because they are so real.

While we're on the topic of Disney, why not look at how Mickey can be found EVERYWHERE.

Lights at the Chef Mickey (think thats what it's called?) at the hotel.

These bathroom slippers are darling of course. Love'em. There are four pairs in the wardrobe. One huge pair for the dad, one medium size for the mom and 2 pairs of kid-sized slippers. :p Really regret not taking more pictures of the room.

Ice-cream at the park!

These mooncakes were going for half-price at the airport.

My favourite part of visiting the magical kingdom was the fireworks display in the evening. Well-known movie tunes and laser lights accompany the myriad of colours bursting from behind Sleeping Beauty's castle. My pathetic picture does not do the show any justice of course.

Day 3: We moved to a hotel in Kowloon to facilitate our shopping and boy was the room a complete disappointment. The beds were old, the sheets were yellow, there were no bathroom slippers so we had to step on cold tiles in the bathroom, there were no bathrobes and then there was the "view".

As pampered as we may seem, we swear it's going to be Marco Polo or any other 4 or 5-star establishment for us the next time we visit HK.

We went up to the Peak in the late afternoon since the sun sets real early at this time of the year.

Taken on the tram..

And then there was the flight home. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Disneyland again on the plane. Can't miss the bright lights anywhere.

All in all, it was a tiring trip. lol. Enjoyable but tiring. We both prefered the slow relaxing holi we had at Phuket. Or maybe it's cos we did not have enough time to shop. lol.

I do like HK very much. It's very much like Singapore but a lot more crowded, a little more chaotic and way more vibrant. The people are feisty and do not allow themselves to be bullied. Shops are open till 11pm, porno magazines are openly sold at newsstands and there are sleazy massage parlours and KTV nightclubs on every other street. Maybe a little chaos does make a place more exciting to live in.

Till I save up enough money for another trip, I'm going to miss HK. :p

Even though I have another paper on Monday, it feels like the exams are over already. I am dying to hop on the plane to HK, to enjoy 4 days of temperate weather, shopping, eating, and just spending some quality and uninterrupted time with someone whose company I really enjoy.

I told XY about the visa application cost today and she changed her msn nick to "Stuck in poor man's land". lol. Apt, she said. I agreed too for myself. I wonder when we will ever get ourselves out of this financial limbo. So many wants, very limited means.

On a more triumphant note though, I swam 20 laps this evening! Hah! I sense this is the start of a healthier and fitter lifestyle. *crosses fingers*

don't i love ala carte buffets... order anything you want.. they all come in small portions so you can have the stomach for almost everything on the menu!

mackarel! *drool*

ok i know the food doesn't look outrightly yummy but the best thing really is in the small portions.. u just keep wanting more after you finish whatever's on your plate!

Their chawanmushi is really really good... smooth n tasty... don't have a picture of that though.. in fact for most of the dishes, we tucked in before remembering to snap a pic..

This restaurant is really worth a try.. and it's a one-for-one if you have an UOB credit card!

Sorry if this post sounds too much like an ad. lol.

finally!

After so many weeks of procrastination and hours of layout woes, I finally finished my APJ assignment!! woohoo! Well, I still haven't developed a talent for layout but who cares when the media law paper is just 1 week away. Sheesh...

Will I miss the place where I shot for final? After being attacked by dogs twice and many mornings of waking up at 6am, I have to say no for now but who knows when I'll get nostalgic.
